Learn More About Photography
Photography is the art of taking still-life pictures and recording radiation on sensitive media. This can be either photographic film or electronic imaging sensors. In most instances of photography, light is used to replace radiation. The light reflected from objects captured creates a real image on the plate or light sensitive film. The image can be used to create a visual image.
History of Photography
In the 19th century, photography was first invented. Instead of using sculptures and paintings, it created a new way to capture images. Although photography has been around since the 1820s, chemical photography was invented. Nicephore Niepce was the first to create photoetching in 1822. Louis Daguerre and he invented a faster way to take photos using silver and chalk. With the invention, the first photo of a person was taken 1839. A man called Talbot created negative images in 1840. His print is the oldest known negative. John Herschel created the blueprint in 1819 using silver halides. He discovered that pictures could be made permanent and created the first glass negative in 1839.
Between 1852 and late 1860’s, the wet plate collodion method of photography was widely used. This was before the dry plate was invented. The process involved printing a negative on salt paper, a positive image on metal and a positive image on glass. The 19th century saw further advances in photography. Film was introduced in 1884 to replace the plates. Gabriel Lippmann, Nobel Laureate in Physics, introduced colors in 1908.
